Chicago Online Skills Assessment (COSA) Website Design & Development

Challenge

CPS’s Office of Technology Services (OTS) chose to assess and evaluate the basic PC skills of its work force.

To accomplish this, a Internet based assessment called (COSA) was created to test teacher’s skills in the following areas: CPS policy, Internet, Email, Hardware, Presentation Software, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Operating System.

Results

This application was developed utilizing ASP.NET with data stored in SQL Server. The visual interface was designed to be as simple and with as little graphics as possible, thus ensuring the download time wasn't compromised. By creating a simple to use site, the site users, many of whom were computer novices, would easily be able to take the online test. The site also worked on all of the main browsers since each school system was set up differently.
